When you say any of these words in regards to yourself in a conversation, there tends to be a bit of a hesitation and awkwardness because of society’s outward tone towards mental health and self-care when it comes to therapy.

So why is it that when we say we’re going to the gym more, people applaud that we’re working on ourselves and trying to be the best we can be. However, when it comes to therapy, there’s this “oh no, what’s WRONG with them?” stigma that comes with it, even though we’re still just working on ourselves.

Thankfully, the statistics around our population either having been to therapy or open to it are rising.

After reading an article on HuffPost entitled, “4 Ways Everyone Can Benefit From Therapy” by Lindsay Holmes, I immediately wanted to talk about these great findings.

In this episode I’ll discuss the 4 main benefits of going to therapy for self-care:

  1. Therapy can help you handle emotions from problems or stressors, even if they aren't dramatically life-altering or traumatic.

  2. Life coaches can hold you accountable for your goals.

  3. Talking with someone can help you find purpose.

  4. A professional can help you dissect a problem -- then help you figure out how to solve it.
